Norse Set To Host NJCAA Region 13B Tournament
Virginia, MN – For the first time in program history the Minnesota North-Mesabi Range Norse volleyball team will host the NJCAA Region 13B Volleyball Tournament. The Norse earned this honor by winning the MCAC Northern Division Championship.
The Norse claimed the Northern Division by having an excellent second half of the season going 7-1 in the MCAC North to finish with a 13-3 record in the division and a 17-9 overall record. The Norse had many significant wins, none more important than a home victory over perennial MCAC North power Central Lakes then the #3 ranked team in the country. That win propelled the Norse to a six match-winning streak. A streak that enabled the Norse to win the MCAC North for the first time since 2002.
Joining the Norse in the tournament are the #2 seed out of the South the M State Spartans who come into the tournament sporting a 20-8 record. The #3 seed out of the North the Northland Pioneers who enter the tournament with a 15-6 record. The last team joining the Norse are the #4 Seed out of the South the St. Cloud TCC Cyclones with a 15-12 record. The Norse faced St. Cloud earlier this season losing in four sets in non-conference play. The Norse lost both matches versus Northland, both in 5 set battles. The Norse did not face M State this season.
The tournament kicks off on October 29th at 6:00 PM with #1 North Minnesota North-Mesabi Range Norse vs #4 South St. Cloud TCC Cyclones. At 8:00 PM the #2 South M State Spartans vs #3 North Northland Pioneers.
Saturday, October 30th at 1:00 PM the Semi Final winners meet for the NJCAA Region 13B Championship and a trip to the NJCAA Division III Volleyball National Championship to be played in Rochester, MN.
